Dear Colleagues:
As Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services of F.F. Thompson Hospital, I am delighted to share with you our 2019 ANCC Magnet re-designation submission. In the time since our last re-designation, we have traveled on a journey of immense change and growth, testing our adaptability and perseverance. On February 3rd, 2019, we launched our new Electronic Health Record, EPIC. It was amazing to see the dedication of our staff as they came together to be involved in the build of a system they understood would improve patient care quality and our patients’ overall experience. To streamline care within our community, we acquired multiple surrounding family practices and the Canandaigua Medical Group, and collaborated with the care providers to ensure optimization of care delivery. During the past 48 months, we also experienced a number of changes in nursing leadership, ultimately leading to a strong, cohesive group that is dedicated to nursing empowerment. Each of these changes has come with its own opportunities and concerns. This document reflects the collective efforts of our organization to further advance our culture of nursing excellence within our ever-changing healthcare environment.
Our vision for nursing distinction guides our selection of specific goals to enhance overall organizational performance as we strive for clinical excellence. This is accomplished by employing a shared governance model and providing competent, inspiring leadership. Nursing at F.F. Thompson Hospital embodies the spirit and practice of caring for patients, families, and the community. There are over 200 nurses who represent F.F. Thompson Hospital nursing, embodying our corporate CARES values and the Synergy model of care.
The nursing staff are passionate in their delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care and are dedicated to their practice of caring. Our nurses continually outperform, and caring can be seen when they advocate for patients unable to do so for themselves, guide patients through the complexity of our care environment and, above all else, truly engage with our patients and their own professional practice. They also advance the nursing profession beyond F.F. Thompson Hospital by participating in professional organizations, conducting research, and advancing their educational careers.
It is awe-inspiring to see the extraordinary things our nurses do in the course of their ordinary days and to learn about the patients and staff who benefit from this work. While our organization is small, I believe our nurses at F.F. Thompson Hospital are making large impressions on the lives they touch. It is with great pride that we showcase their accomplishments through this electronic document.
